Isla Omotepe, Nicaragua

We spent the second week in Nicaragua on this amazing island formed by 2 volcanoes connected by an isthmus. This place was like going back in time. It had such a laid back and slow pace of life. We stayed at a permaculture farm/hostel called El Zopilote. This is by far our favorite hostel yet! The farm was completely self sustainable following the permaculture method of farming. All the delicious food was produced by the farm. We slept in outdoor hammocks every night, there was free yoga every morining and free salsa lessons at night!

Our boat ride to the island. The saftey of the boat was questionable, but we made it.

This is volcanoe conception. This is the taller of the 2 volcanoes and still active.

Dung beatle! Some serious shit.

Coconut snack! Yeah Machet!
The enterance to the farm.

Hanging out in the 15 meter mirador (the lookout) with our friend Bora. He is a DJ from Turkey and he played a great set every afternoon and introduced us to Goa Trance.

Us on the mirador with volcanoe Maderas in the background. The miradors were our favorite spots, you could see above the jungle canopy, volcanoes and the lake!
Patrick on the edge of the mirador looking at Volcanoe Maderes.

Outdoor bamboo dual shower! You could see the volcanoe from here as well.

We found this giant guy in the shower!

One of the many trails through the property.

Patrick volunteering in the nursery.

Lounging out in our bedroom/ hammocks.

Tiny little puppies. They were half the size of his shoe.

Watch out! Baby Boa by the bathroom.
A view of the lake from a hike a little ways up Maderas.

Sadly leaving Omotepe on Ferry Che Guevara.

Granada, Nicaragua

We spent the first week in Nicaragua in Leon (climbing the volcanoe) and in Granada. Granada has a heavy European enfluence. As you can see by the pictures below, the streets, architeture and city layout is more like parts of Europe than Central America.
This a view of the city from the tallest church in town, looking out on to lago de Nicaragua.

Here we are in the old town area where all the streets are cobble stone.

After throughly exploring the local market we got a sandwich bag of fresh melon juice and 3 sliced mangos for a dollar!!!! Hollar!!!
